Cooling for your pet

Cooling for dogs

Dogs can mainly lose their heat by panting and through the soles of their feet. They only have sweat glands in the soles of the feet and therefore get hot quickly. It is therefore important to provide cooling for your dog. If it is very hot, do not take long walks in the heat of the day. It is better to plan this early in the morning or later in the day.

Tips

For example, the asphalt and sand can become very hot for your dog's sensitive paw pads. If your dog has gotten very hot, there are several ways to cool your dog:

  • Make sure you have plenty of fresh drinking water (not too cold!). To make it even more fun for your pet, we also have a very nice CoolPets Splash Water Fountain
  • Swimming: Swimming is a great way to cool off. Pay attention to the quality of the water with regard to blue-green algae and botulism. Read more about this in our article swimming with your dog. However, you can also set up a bath in the garden yourself. Ideal for cooling your dog nicely. Dog pools are sturdily made and scratch-resistant. Most pools have a non-slip bottom to prevent slipping: Trixie Dog Pool, CoolPets Pool and Beeztees Dog Pool Doggy Dip.
  • Cooling products: If your dog doesn't like swimming, there are other products that can also provide cooling. Cooling mats, for example, are a good option. There are cooling mats that get cold when your dog lies on them. You don't need a freezer, electricity or water. Other cooling mats have a cooling effect after they have been placed in the water. These cooling mats come in different sizes and also in XL or even XXL size for the very large dogs, for example the Aqua Coolkeeper cooling mat. You can also cool your dog by putting on a cooling vest. You first wet these vests, so that they then cool your dog by evaporating the water. View the different cooling vests here. In addition to cooling vests, there are also cooling belts, which are bandanas that work in the same way as the cooling vests. This way your dog stays cooler with a nice bandana around his neck.

Dogs that have a thin coat can also burn easily. For this you can use a special sunscreen, such as the Dermoscent Sunfree for dog and cat.
